The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo director David Fincher has said he still wants to make a sequel to the 2011 film adaptation of Stieg Larsson's hit novel.

Speaking to Afton Bladet, Fincher, who is currently promoting his upcoming release Gone Girl, said, "I think because [Sony] already has spent millions of dollars on the rights and the script it will result in something."

He added, "The script that we now have has a huge potential. I can reveal as much as it is extremely different from the book."

It is expected that Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig would reprise their roles for any further films in the series.
