It is reported that Vince Vaughn is a frontrunner to star in the second, California-set season of HBO's True Detective.
Deadline reports that while there have been no formal negotiations, progress has been swift, with all sides hopeful a deal can be reached.
The website says it understands that True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto wrote the new character with Vaughn in mind, with season two possibly exploring corruption in the California transportation system.
Pizzolatto previously wrote a script for a planned Vaughn-starring film remake of The Rockford Files and while another writer then worked on the project, Pizzolatto and Vaughn developed a working relationship.
Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch have reportedly also been in talks to take on two of the four main roles in True Detective season two.
