Former EastEnders star Barbara Windsor has ruled out any imminent return to the BBC One soap opera.

The 76-year-old actress, who played the matriarchal Peggy Mitchell on-and-off since 1994, briefly returned to the role last year for a special episode.

But despite previously admitting that she was tempted to make a more permanent return to the soap, Windsor is now insisting that she is happy with her post-EastEnders’ life.

Speaking to UK tabloid The Sun, she said: “At the moment I am very happy. I do Radio 2 which is great, I am doing a one-off about the film studios at Elstree and I quite like that.

“I can be Barbara, just talking about the films. I quite like being me. I don't want to start learning lines again. I am 76 and I think that's it. I had no life with [husband] Scott when I was doing EastEnders.”
