Meryl Streep is set to play a rock 'n' roll mum in a new comedy drama from writer Diablo Cody called Ricki and the Flash.

Oscar-winner Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs) is set to direct the project, which TriStar is in final negotiations to pick up.

The script from Cody (Juno) is described as "funny and touching" and details the life of a rock 'n' rolling loving mother who chased her dreams of making it in the music industry at the price of her family. However, she gets a last chance to make things right.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Streep will play the mother who is a grocery store checkout lady by day, and guitar-wielding rocker by night.

Marc Platt and Mason Novick will produce the movie, which is planned to shoot this autumn.
