Damon Albarn has quashed rumours of a new Blur album, saying that he and his fellow bandmates are "just doing other stuff." despite having worked in studio together last year.
Albarn is about to release Everyday Robots, his debut solo album which is due on April 28. Speaking to Rolling Stone, he said: “I just haven’t got the time. There is material, but I can’t foresee us in the near future being in a position to finish it.”
His fellow Blur bandmates are busy with other projects. Drummer Dave Rowntree continues his work as a DJ on London station Xfm, having seemingly shelved his political ambitions.
Louche and lovely bassist Alex James writes a column for The Daily Telegraph and continues to make cheese, while guitarist Graham Coxon may be returning to his prolific solo career after taking 2013 off.
Asked about reactivating Gorillaz, his band with illustrator Jamie Hewlett, Albarn told Rolling Stone: “Apart from [Hewlett’s] visuals, I am Gorillaz. The only constant thing . . . is myself. And I’m still here. Is my new album, in a way, a Gorillaz record? It’s not, but . . . it’s complicated.”
