Max George has spoken about the reasons The Wanted have decided to split following their upcoming Word of Mouth tour.

The 25-year-old popstar has revealed that the group's personal lives and tensions amongst the band have caused them to drift apart over the past number of months.

Speaking to The Sun newspaper George said: "Over the past year there has been a lot of tension. Our personal lives drove us apart.

"Things started to happen and we were drifting. We used to be such a brotherly pact, but it started to feel like it wasn't The Wanted any more."

George spoke about the moment they decided to call it quits confirming it was he, and Nathan Sykes, that announced they wanted to pursue other projects.

He said: "We had a very difficult conversation. Our manager Scooter Braun asked us who would want to take a step out after the tour and try to do their own thing. Me and Nathan both said we have other ambitions.

"We were more prepared than the others because we'd looked at how things had been going with the band over the past few months."

He added: "Our record sales weren't what they were. We had to have an open and honest discussion about that because continuing, and without a label, is difficult."

George also shared what his bandmates have planned to do once The Wanted play their final gig in May - Siva Kaneswaran will focus on modelling, Tom Parker will continue DJing, Jay McGuiness would like a career in TV and Radio and Sykes will pursue his solo music.

George himself wants to break into acting and has signed with CAA acting agency in Hollywood.

He explained: "After the tour I'm going to move to LA, get a house and settle there. I'm going to do auditions and learn the business. There's talk of a couple of roles already."
