The Strypes have been confirmed as the RTÉ 2fm nominee for Eurosonic 2014.

Speaking to RTÉ TEN, The Alternative presenter, Dan Hegarty said: “What a brilliant choice as the first Irish act announced!

"Really happy to have them coming along with us to Holland in January - they join the many great bands 2fm has sent to Eurosonic over the years - The Frames, God Is An Astronaut, James Vincent McMorrow, Heathers, Little Green Cars, Kodaline, Bell X1, JJ72, Julie Feeney, The Coronas, Cathy Davey – and so on”.

The Strypes told us from Tokyo, where they are on tour: “We are absolutely thrilled to be 2fm's choice to appear at next year’s Eurosonic festival. It is a total honour to play such a prestigious festival and to be Ireland's representatives.”

As in previous years Hegarty will be broadcasting live from the festival in Groningen in Holland and more Irish acts will be announced in the coming weeks ahead of the music festival from January 15 to 18.

Meanwhile there are two competitions for music fans to enter. The first is a chance to win a ticket to every festival that wins an award in the 2014 European Festival Awards, held during the Eurosonic Festival. For further information or to enter just click here

In addition 2fm will be sending a winner and a friend over to the EBBA's (European Border Breaker Awards) and the whole Eurosonic festival. Stay tuned to 2fm for further details and check out 2fm's Eurosonic page here
