Saoirse Ronan has said she plans to play Mary Queen of Scots in a new film.
Speaking to STV while promoting her new, Neil Jordan-directed film Byzantium at the Glasgow Film Festival, Ronan said: "I'm hopefully going to be playing Mary Queen of Scots in the second half of the year, and I’m really looking forward to it, just coming back to Scotland.”
She continued: "Scottish history is fascinating, and it’s very similar to Irish history.
"When I read the script, and I started reading up a little bit about Mary, I found it really touched a nerve, because it’s very similar to what we went through as well. So I really hope it works out, I’d love to play her."
Ronan's next film, The Host, opens on Friday March 29, while Byzantium opens on Friday May 31.
