The Dark Knight Rises star Christian Bale is reportedly in talks to lead the cast of director Baltasar Kormakur’s disaster film about an expedition on Mount Everest.
Deadline reported the news about the film which is based on the real-life 1996 expedition to scale Mount Everest, which saw three separate treks struck by sudden storms, with eight climbers being killed.
Kormakur is well suited to the genre as The Deep told the story of one man’s ordeal of being the lone survivor after his fishing boat sinks in icy waters and was shortlisted for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar.
The project is not to be confused with Tom Hardy’s Everest, adapted from Jeffrey Archer’s Paths of Glory and directed by Doug Liman, which is currently in pre-production.
There has already been a small screen version of the story based on the book of survivor, Jon Krakauer’s Into Thin Air.
