She’s sold 24 million copies, including 250,000 in Ireland alone, but don’t expect a follow up to Adele’s 21 any time soon.

The Londoner hasn’t begun work on a new record and she’s unlikely to return to the studio in the near future, according to her label XL Recordings.

The imprint recently registered £41.7 million (€51.3 million) in profit in 2011 following the enormous success of 21, but insisted that those figures will not be achievable every year.

"The next Adele album may not come for some years, and it's impossible to predict its likely sales," a spokesperson for XL told The New York Times. "We therefore regard this year's figures as exceptional."

XL is also home to The Horrors, Jack White, M.I.A. and Vampire Weekend among others and the massive sales of 21 since its release in January 2011 has seen the label’s bank balance rocket from £3m to £32m in a year.
