HBO's Treme has been renewed for a fourth and final season, The Hollywood Reported has confirmed.

The series co-creator David Simon said that the season will be shorter than previous outings, although he did not reveal how many episodes it would include.

At a screening of the show's season three opening episode, Simon told the crowd that the show's return was hard fought.

The Times-Picayune quotes him as saying: “We are going to be back for a season 3.5. HBO, upon viewing the 10 (season-three episodes) that we gave them and what we’ve done, they want to see the end of the story".

"They fought very hard to give us half a loaf. We’re going to take it and run.”

The New Orleans-based drama series began three months after Hurricane Katrina, and counted John Goodman, Melissa Leo, Wendell Pierce and Steve Zahn among the cast members.
