Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes has described herself as a “psychotic Doctor Who fan”.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the showrunner revealed her love for the BBC sci-fi drama.
Rhimes said: "I liked Buffy and I liked Angel and I liked Battlestar but - I hate to say this because I'll probably get some letters - I've never seen an episode of Star Trek.
"But if you are at all interested in television that's taking chances then, yeah, I think you like [Doctor Who]. It's completely different from anything that's on network television here, or even on cable."
Rhimes said that she even tried to hire departing Doctor Who star Karen Gillan for a “top secret” project.
"I think she's really, really talented," she said. "But apparently she's doing a movie next, so we couldn't get her."
Doctor Who is due to return to BBC One in the autumn.
