The creator of Grey's Anatomy has said that she will not bring Katherine Heigl's character back to the hit show
Heigl recently declared that she would love to reprise her role as Dr Izzie Stevens on the hit medical drama. Grey’s Anatomy was seen as Heigl’s big break, but she left amidst a storm of controversy after criticising the writing for her character.
Speaking about the show’s creator and writer Shonda Rhimes, the actress said; “I've told them I want to [return]. I don't know . . . Being a show runner and being a writer of a TV series like that is so complicated that, I mean, she's got - how many characters are there now? There's a lot, and so she's balancing about 40 different storylines, so I don't know if it fits in to their sort of vision for this season or next or however many seasons it goes.”
Her co-star Patrick Dempsey has said he would love to see her back on set, admitting; “She was a great loss to the show, in my opinion. She had a great character. She's a wonderful actress and I would always welcome her back, certainly."
However Heigl’s dream of returning the small screen has been dashed with Rhimes telling TV Guide magazine: “No, I don't think that's happening. We are on a track we have been planning, and the idea of changing that track is not something we are interested in right now. (It's) really nice to hear (Heigl) appreciating the show."
