Mooney premiere for Eurovision hopefuls

The five acts hoping to represent Ireland in this year's Eurovision Song Contest will have their songs broadcast for the first time on RTÉ Radio 1's Mooney show tomorrow, Thursday February 9, from 3pm.

The five acts, each selected by one of five music industry mentors, are: Celtic Whisper with Maria McCool, Donna McCaul, Andrew Mann, duo Úna Gibney and David Shannon and Jedward.

Celtic Whisper with Maria McCool's song is entitled Mistaken, written by Edele Lynch, who is also their mentor.

Donna McCaul's song is entitled Mercy, written by Marten Ericsson, Peter Mansson, Lina Ericsson and Bill Hughes. Bill Hughes is also McCaul's mentor.

Andrew Mann's song is Here I Am, written by Greg French, who is also his mentor.

Úna Gibney and David Shannon's song is Language of Love, written by Eanan Patterson and Julian Benson. Their mentor is also Julian Benson.

Jedward's song is Waterline, written by Nick Jarl. Their mentor is Linda Martin.

Eurovision fans worldwide can also listen to the songs tomorrow on Mooney from 3pm via the RTÉ Radio Player: www.rte.ie/radioplayer.

The show will be available to download as a podcast directly after the programme ends at 4.30pm via www.rte.ie/radioplayer and www.facbook.ie/RTERadio1.

The winning act will be chosen on Eurosong 2012 on The Late Late Show on Friday February 24 and the acts will perform in the order listed above. As was the case last year, Ireland's Eurovision entry will be selected by a combination of public and regional jury vote.

This year's Eurovision will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan in May, with Ireland competing in the first semi-final on Tuesday May 22.
