Simon Cowell has said that he will scrap the US version of 'The X Factor' if he cannot find the right kind of star.

The Press Association reports that Cowell said at an 'X Factor' audition in Los Angeles on Sunday: "I've made a decision: you know what, it's all or nothing. If we can't find a star, or if the show's useless, we'll just call it a day.

"It's got to be great, it's got to be fun, you've got to find a star, otherwise truthfully it's all been a waste of time - so no pressure."

Cowell said that the hiring of T4 presenter Steve Jones as co-host of the new show was decided at the "last second".

This appears to contradict the press release announcing Jones' hiring as co-host with Pussycat Dolls' Nicole Scherzinger in which Cowell said: "I have always wanted Steve to work with us. I think he is a real star."

Cowell will be joined by fellow judges Paula Abdul, Cheryl Cole and Antonio 'LA' Reid on the new show.
