Cheryl Cole’s brother Andrew Tweedy has been jailed for six years for his part in an armed robbery.

The Sun reports that Cole’s older brother has been sentenced to six years behind bars for his part in planning a robbery at a Newcastle post office which took place last May.

Newcastle Crown Court was told that Tweedy had allowed the robbers to use his nearby flat as a base and borrow his imitation handgun.

Tweedy’s latest conviction is a fresh blow to his superstar sister who is currently trying to launch her music career in the States.

She has tried repeatedly to help her elder brother and has previously paid for him to undergo rehabilitation for drug addiction.

Meanwhile Cheryl is said to be frustrated waiting for 'X Factor' chief Simon Cowell to make his decision about her role on the US version of the talent show.

Industry insiders have said that Cowell is trying to persuade American TV execs that relatively unknown Cheryl would make a great judge.

However it has also been reported that he has spoken to US stars Mariah Carey, Jessica Simpson, Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul.
