Cheryl Cole may have to resign herself to missing out on a judging role on the US 'X Factor', as Simon Cowell is reportedly looking elsewhere to fill the seats on the panel.
A source told The Sun: "Every day it looks more and more unlikely that Cheryl will get her dream job - so Simon is looking at alternatives."
However according to the Daily Star, Cowell is still keen to have her involved in the show and is drawing up plans to feature her as either a mentor or as a guest judge.
They added: "The mentor role is one idea. She knows what it's like to audition as she was discovered on 'Popstars: The Rivals.'"
It's thought that if the US 'X Factor' bosses are impressed with her performance as a mentor and perhaps as a guest judge, then she could be offered the chance to be a judge on the second season of the show.
Cowell is reportedly 'gutted' he is unable to offer her a judging role in the first series.
A source told the Mirror: "Simon is full of guilt and hates the fact that he has spent all these months promising her a big break in America and now it's likely he may have to let her go from the show."
Meanwhile plans are being worked out to see who will replace Cowell and Cole on the judging panel of the UK 'X Factor', with Robbie Williams, Nicole Scherzinger, Michael Bublé and Lily Allen all in the frame.
Cowell's brother Tony revealed that Allen has already been approached: "Simon is a fan of Lily’s and has had talks. I’m sure she’d be fabulous."
