Just weeks after causing a storm while presenting the 'Golden Globes', Ricky Gervais has joked that he has written an alternative script for Oscar presenters James Franco and Anne Hathaway.

The British comedian - who was loudly criticised for his barely concealed barbs about certain stars at the recent Hollywood event - gave his best wishes to the Oscar pair on his blog.

"Good luck to James Franco and Anne Hathaway at the Oscars on Sunday. I know how nervous they must be right now," Gervais said.

"They will do an absolutely fantastic job and don't need my help, but I've written a little opening in case they have a few minutes to fill."

Gervais’ script has Hathaway telling the audience: "No comedians tonight. And do you know why? Because comics are ugly."

Franco’s response would be: "Especially that rude obnoxious one who played the Steve Carell part in the English remake of 'The Office'."

The Oscars take place next Sunday and can be watched live on Sky Premiere or you can catch highlights on Monday on RTÉ Two.
