'Coronation Street' star Sue Cleaver has been charged with drink-driving after she was allegedly caught behind the wheel while almost twice the legal limit.
The soap star, who plays, Eileen Grimshaw in the show, was stopped in the early hours of yesterday.
The actress, 46, was driving a Land Rover Freelander and it is understood she was on her way home.
She was stopped and breathalysed after police suspected her of driving under the influence of drink.
The soap star was arrested at the scene. She was taken to a police station for a second test and later released.
A 'Coronation Street' spokesman said: “This is a police matter and we don't wish to comment.”
Meanwhile, a Weatherfield source told The Mirror: "Despite what has happened there is still a lot of sympathy for her because she is so well liked by just about everyone connected with the show.
"But she realises the seriousness of the situation she finds herself in and just wants to get it over and done with."
Cleaver's screen son Ryan Thomas (Jason Grimshaw) is also due to appear in court next month to answer driving charges of his own.
