'Grey's Anatomy' star Katherine Heigl and her husband, musician Josh Kelley, are starting their family.

RadarOnline.com first reported that the couple were adopting a 10-month-old girl from Korea named Naleigh and that they had been working on the adoption process for around six months.

Heigl's sister Meg was also adopted from Korea.

In an interview airing on today's 'Ellen DeGeneres Show', Heigl says the child's name is a hybrid of her mother and sister's names, Nancy and Leigh.

"She was actually born the day before me in November which I thought was really serendipitous and just kind of like a sign. I realised just recently that I basically forfeited my birthday for the rest of my life," she says.

Of the adoption process, Heigl says: "She is a special needs baby and because of that it all moved so much faster. They wanted to get her to us as quickly as possible."

"It's [adoption] been a big part of my life and my family," the 30-year-old actress tells host DeGeneres. "My sister is Korean and my parents adopted her back in the Seventies and so I just always knew that this is something I wanted to do."
