Eminem turned to Elton John for advice on getting clean after he developed an addiction to painkillers.

The rapper, 36, real name Marshall Mathers, developed the addiction when he quit the music scene in 2005.

Speaking to the Detroit Metro Times, Eminem said: "Me and him have had similar lives and stuff. We became friends and I talk to him about things, career-wise.

"When I first wanted to get sober, I called him and spoke to him about it. He's somebody who's in the business and can identify and relate to the lifestyle and how hectic things can be."

According to Now, Elton, 62, checked into rehab in 1990 to recover from his addiction problems.

Eminem continued: "He understands…the pressure and any other reasons that you want to come up with for doing drugs."
