The prospect of a third series of the Emmy award-winning 'Mad Men' has moved closer after US network AMC agreed with the show's producer Lionsgate to screen another season.

The Hollywood Reporter says that the deal depends on Lionsgate securing the show's creator and executive producer Matthew Weiner for another series.

The trade daily says that Weiner's 'Mad Men' deal expires at the end of the second season, which has its finale on US TV on 26 October.

Weiner, who won an Emmy for his work on the series, has been in talks about a new deal for a number of months.
