Madonna is planning to return to Malawi to work for charity but a spokesperson has said that the singer has no plans to adopt another child there.

Madonna was as the centre of controversy last year when she went to Malawi to adopt a one-year-old boy, David Banda.

Adoption groups accused the singer of using her fame to bypass the country's laws about foreigners adopting from Malawi; David Banda's father, Yohane Banda, said he supported the adoption.

In an email to Reuters yesterday, Madonna's spokeswoman, Liz Rozenborg, said: "She's going back to continue her work with [the] Raising Malawi Organization and to oversee the building of a children's health care center there."

"There are no plans for another adoption," she added.

Madonna is in the legal process of adopting David Banda, who was living in an orphanage following the death of his mother.

Rosenberg said she did not know if the boy would travel with Madonna to Malawi for a reunion with his father.
