County music group The Dixie Chicks have won all five of the Grammy Awards for which they were nominated.
The country stars picked up the awards for Album of the Year, Best Country Album, Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Group Country Vocal Performance.
The Dixie Chicks' big awards haul comes after being banned from several US radio stations when singer Natalie Maines said that she was ashamed to come from the same state as US President George Bush.
Maines said of the wins: "I think people are using their freedom of speech tonight with all of these awards."
Other big winners on the night included the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who claimed four awards from their six nominations, including Best Rock Album and Best Rock Performance.
Mary J Blige, who received eight Grammy nominations, left with three awards - Best R&B Album, Best R&B Song and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
Double winners included Bob Dylan, Gnarls Barkley, John Mayer, Tony Bennett, John Legend, Bruce Spingsteen, John Williams, Ludacris, Kirk Franklin, Chick Corea, John Williams, Michael Tilson Thomas and Michael Brecker.
Irish singer Enya won the award for Best New Age Album for 'Amarantine'.
Beyonce, who was nominated for four Grammys, picked up one award, as did former 'American Idol' star Carrie Underwood.
Music legend Stevie Wonder also picked up an award, bringing his Grammy total to 25.
James Blunt and Prince, who each secured five nominations, failed to pick up any awards on the night.
