Crowded House frontman Neil Finn and bass player Nick Seymour are reported to be auditioning drummers in Melbourne for a world tour later this year.

The Australian-New Zealand group, who had hits in the 1980s with songs like 'Weather with You', 'Don't Dream It's Over' and 'Four Seasons In One Day', split up in 1996.

The band's original drummer, Paul Hester, committed suicide in 2004.

According to Julia Connolly, a spokeswoman for Finn, told New Zealand's The Dominion Post newspaper that further auditions will take place in Auckland and Los Angeles.

"At the moment, they're just working at getting the band together," she said. "Something's formally coming out once the band is in place."

The reformed band are expected to embark on a 12-month world tour.
