'Coronation Street' bad boy Bill Ward has landed a role playing another wicked character in a Christmas pantomime.

Ward, who plays builder Charlie Stubbs in the soap, has signed up to play evil magician Abanazer in a production of 'Aladdin'.

The actor, who is currently filming his final scenes for 'Coronation Street', is now preparing for the panto, which will be staged at Lowry Theatre in Manchester.

Ward said: "I am really looking forward to it as panto is a great British institution."

"Charlie has caused a lot of torment and heartbreak, but playing Abanazer will be a laugh as he thinks he's the best magician in the entire world and is bent on world domination."

The actor said that magician Paul Daniels gave him some tips on creating illusions and performing tricks.

"Paul came to visit us in rehearsals and gave us some very good pointers," Ward said.

"I thought if you have a bloke who fancies himself as the greatest sorcerer in the world it would be nice to have a magical element to the show."
