Smashing Pumpkins' lead guitarist/songwriter Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin are set to start work on a new studio album, sparking rumours of a reunion for the seminal alternative rock band, according to Billboard.com.
The American music website reports that the Pumpkins' singer and drummer have regrouped to record an album which will be released under the group name.
This would be the first new Smashing Pumpkin's album since 2000's 'MACHINA/the machines of god'.
Original members James Iha (guitar) and D'arcy Wretzky (bass), who Corgan has accused in the past of walking away from the band.
Last June Corgan took out full page adverts in American newspapers, announcing his intentions to "renew and "revive" the Pumpkins.
His ill-received solo debut, 'The Future Embrace', was also released in June.
