Zwan, the band put together by former Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan, have split after just one album.
Speaking on US radio yesterday, Corgan explained why he had disbanded the group.
"My heart was in Smashing Pumpkins," he said. "I really enjoyed my experience with Zwan, but at the end of the day, without that sense of deeper family loyalty, it just becomes like anything else."
Zwan's album, 'Mary Star of the Sea', was widely praised when it was released earlier this year.
Corgan is now expected to work on solo material.
