New 'Dr Who' David Tennant is facing a backlash from fans who do not want him to be the tenth Time Lord.
The Scottish actor is taking over from Christopher Eccleston in the next series of the BBC hit.
Tennant says he was shocked by comments on a website dedicated to the show doubting his ability to carry off the role.
The 34-year-old admitted Eccleston will be a tough act to follow.
"Chris was so good in it. So sure-footed with what he did. So there is an awful lot to live up to", he said.
"I just hope people like it. I hope they stick with it and give it a chance. I know everyone loved Chris, and so did I, but hopefully I won't disappoint."
