Actress and former pop star Billie Piper is reported to be quitting the new 'Dr Who' series.

According to reports, the 22-year-old actress, who plays the part of Dr Who's sidekick Rose Tyler, will leave the show half-way through the second series.

Her co-star Christopher Eccleston, who played the lead role in the programme, left earlier this year.

A spokesperson for the BBC said that it had not been confirmed how many of the episodes in the second series Piper would star in. "We are waiting to see the storylines and scripts," the spokesperson said.

According to science fiction magazine Dreamwatch, the actress has already decided that she is quitting the show.
