Clint Eastwood won the Directors Guild of America's Best Film Director award for 'Million Dollar Baby' at a ceremony in Los Angeles on Saturday night.

The Hollywood Reporter says that the award is seen as a key indicator of Oscar glory: the winner of the DGA award has gone on to win the Academy Award in 50 of the past 56 years.

Earlier this month Eastwood won the Best Director award at the Golden Globes.

He previously won the DGA award in 1993 for 'Unforgiven' and was nominated last year for 'Mystic River'.

The award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Documentary went to Byambasuren Davaa and Luigi Falorni for 'The Story of the Weeping Camel'.
