Irish director Jim Sheridan will direct American rapper 50 Cent in a gangster film called 'Locked and Loaded'.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Paramount Pictures/MTV Films project is the story of how an inner city drug dealer walks away from a life of crime to pursue a successful career in rap music.

The script was written by 'The Sopranos' executive producer and writer Terence Winter.

50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, hit the charts in 2003 with his major-label debut 'Get Rich Or Die Tryin'

Sheridan, who has also directed 'The Boxer,' 'My Left Foot' and 'In the Name of the Father', was nominated for an Oscar this year for the semi-autobiographical 'In America'.

His name has also been connected to the remake of Akira Kurosawa's 1952 film 'Ikiru'.
