'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King' triumphed in five categories at the BAFTA awards in London last night.

It won Best Film, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Special Effects and The Orange Film of the Year, which is voted for by the public.

Bill Murray was named Best Actor for 'Lost in Translation' while his co-star, Scarlett Johansson, won the Best Actress Award.

Renee Zellweger was named Best Supporting Actress for 'Cold Mountain' while Bill Nighy took home the Best Supporting Actor award for 'Love Actually'.

Peter Weir won Best Director for 'Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World'.

Weir's film also won the awards for Best Production Design, Best Costume Design and Best Sound.

The award for Outstanding British Film of the Year went to 'Touching the Void' and 'In This World' was named Best Film Not in the English Language.

The BAFTA Fellowship was presented to director John Boorman.
