U2 to play on Ramones tribute

U2 have signed up to perform on a tribute album to legendary rockers The Ramones.

Bono and the boys will perform a cover of the band's hit 'Beat on the Brat' for the album, which is due for release on 5 November in the US (a date has not yet been finalised for Europe).

Metallica, Marlyn Manson, Garbage, Pete Yorn, Tom Waits and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers will also feature on the album, for which author Stephen King will write the liner notes.

U2 have often credited The Ramones as being an early influence on the Irish band's music.
