Irish rockers U2 have denied reports that they are to play New York's Times Square on 5 September.
It had been widely reported in the media that the band would take part in a massive show to demonstrate the resurgence of the city since the 11 September terrorist attacks.
A spokesperson for the group said they were not aware of the event until they read in the New York Post about U2's supposed involvement.
The Times Square concert is also planned to mark the official kick-off of the National Football League season in the US.
