18-year-old Adam Beales (a.k.a. thenewadamb99) has taken his hobby – making YouTube videos – and turned it into a potential career.
Adam is from Derry and currently has just over 700,000 subscribers on YouTube. How has he achieved this? He joined guest-host Dave Fanning on The Ryan Tubridy Show to tell take him through it.
Adam explained that the videos he makes are geared towards children and are all about "trying to have a bit of a laugh on camera". He makes vlogs, does pranks and devises challenges to entertain viewers.
"The great thing about it is that you can choose to upload whenever you want. It’s your own account. You own 100% everything. You can choose how long you want the video to be. You can choose what’s in the video. There’s no producers. It’s just you. It’s a one-man show, which I think is brilliant."
Adam told Dave that he loves the freedom that comes with the platform.
"You can do anything with it. As long as you have your camera, you have the potential to reach the thousands, if not millions of people."
It doesn’t cost anything to subscribe to a Youtuber so Adam is not making big money from his channel yet but, as he told Dave, the success of his videos has opened up the possibility of making this a career.
"You do realise the potential of a Youtube career…there’s just so many activities outside of Youtube that can propel you on to different branches and businesses."
