Freedom Letters takes place this Friday evening at the Model gallery in Sligo as part of this year's Cairde Arts Festival.

Freedom Letters: Valeria O'Connor-Vilinska and Constance Markievicz

Through music and poetry, it tells the story of two remarkable women, Constance Markievicz and Valeria O'Connor-Vilinska, and their involvement in the struggle for independence in Ireland and in Ukraine in the early 20th century.

Ukrainian and Irish poets Luba Yamchuk and Mary Branley have written the libretto for a series of imagined letters between the women, and musicians on the night include Saileog Ní Cheannabháin, Emer Mayock, Kate Ellis, and Olessa Zdorovetska herself - find out more here.
