MOVIE: Jackass Forever
22 years (!) after the original MTV series premiered, Johnny Knoxville and crew return for another slice of mindless mayhem, made strangely poignant by the clearly declining physical condition of the Jackass crew. One particular stunt, involving a bull, reportedly gave Knoxville a brain haemorrhage. Do we need to remind you not to try this at home? (At cinemas nationwide from February 4th)
MUSIC: Laurel Hell by Mitski
Ahead of her forthcoming sold-out Dublin date, and a year after announcing her departure from the music industry (she later changed her mind), the sensitive Japanese-American art rocker releases her sixth album, described by as 'an austere, nuanced, and disaffected indie-pop record that, in part, addresses her turbulent relationship with her own career'. VISUAL ARTS: Meeting in Isfahan
In 1598, the city of Isfahan became Iran's new capital, signalling a vibrant transformation of political, spiritual and cultural life under the Safavid dynasty. As the global silk trade boosted Iran’s economy, a popular rhyme observed: "Isfahan, nesf-e jahan" – "Isfahan is half the world." Safavid Isfahan would become a hub for dazzling urbanity, and European merchant travellers published breathless accounts of their experiences.
