Poetry Programme preview - poems that question our past

In the Poetry Programme on Sunday 28th February, at 7:30 pm on RTÉ Radio 1, Olivia O'Leary is joined by poets Geraldine Mitchell and Damian Gorman.

Geraldine Mitchell was born in Dublin and has been living in County Mayo since 2000. She is the recipient of a Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award and various literary bursaries and acted as Poetry Ambassador for Trócaire from 2012 to 2015.

She joins Olivia to read from her new collection of poetry, Mute/Unmute, published by Arlen House, and reads a selection of poems, including some inspired by history and by recent events.

Damien Gorman is from Newcastle in County Down and now lives in Wales. He has been a poet, playwright, broadcaster and encourager of writing in other people for over 35 years, and his work has garnered awards as diverse as a Better Ireland Award, an MBE, a Golden Harp and a BAFTA.

His latest book, As If I Cared, combines prose, drama and poetry and is published by The Junction in Derry. He joins Olivia to talk about his work and reads a poem that recalls his childhood and an extract from a powerful work originally written as a verse documentary for television that remembered 1972, a particularly dark year of The Troubles in Northern Ireland.
