In The Poetry Programme on Sunday 22nd November 2020, at 7:30 pm on RTÉ Radio 1, Olivia O'Leary meets poets Polina Cosgrave and Linda McKenna, who have both published their debut collections - listen above.

Polina Cosgrave was born in Volgograd, Russia, where she earned a degree in Linguistics. Her writing in Russian was featured on Russian radio and websites. She moved to Dublin in 2016 to study literature and got her MFA in American College Dublin, where she was also rewarded The Board of Trustees medal. Her poetry in English has appeared in print and on radio, and was featured in the Writing Home: The 'New Irish’ Poets anthology. (Dedalus Press, 2019). Polina has taken part in Bray Literary Festival, Arts in Action NUI Galway and Mother Tongues Festival. She lives in Arklow with her family.

Polina joins Olivia to talk about her Russian, coming to grips with how English is spoken in Ireland, and reads from her debut collection, My Name Is (Dedalus Press).

Linda McKenna was brought up in Kinsealy in North County Dublin and educated at Malahide Community School, Trinity College Dublin and the University of Leicester. Following six years spent working in Leicester, she moved to Northern Ireland in 1993, and has lived in Downpatrick for over twenty years.

Linda began writing in 2015 and has had poems published in a variety of journals. In 2018 she won the Seamus Heaney Award for New Writing and the Red Line Book Festival Poetry Competition. The title poem of her debut collection, In the Museum of Misremembered Things, has been shortlisted for the Listowel Writers’ Week Poem of the Year 2020. The winner will be announced on 25th November 2020.
