The northern Irish author Maggie O'Farrell has won the Women’s Prize for fiction for her novel Hamnet, which is based on the story of Shakespeare’s son.
The book was described as a tender and unforgettable reimagining of a boy whose life has been all but forgotten, but whose name was given to one of the most celebrated plays ever written.
