Sinead O'Connor performed the Snowpatrol song Run as part of the #ShineYourLight initiative.
The RTÉ initiative was launched by Culture Minister Josepha Madigan and happened at 9pm on Saturday night.
It featured music performances and spoken word from artists including Sinead O'Connor.
As part of the campaign, Government buildings and other national and local public buildings shone their beacon lights.
