In the Poetry Programme on 24th November 2019, at 7:30 pm on RTÉ Radio 1, poets Deirdre Brennan and Tom French join presenter Olivia O'Leary at an event recorded during the summer in Emo Court, Co Laois - listen to the show above. 

Deirdre Brennan is a bilingual poet, also writes short stories and drama, and is a founder member of Éigse Cheatharlach. She talks with Olivia about writing in Irish, recalls meeting Peig Sayers, and reads some of her work in both Irish and English. She has published work with Arlen House and Coiscéim.

Tom French was born in Kilkenny and raised across the border in Tipperary. His first collection, Touching the Bones (Gallery Press, 2001), was awarded the Forward Prize for First Collection 2002. The Gallery Press has also published his subsequent collections, including his latest collection, The Last Straw, which was published in February 2018.

In July 2019, Deirdre and Tom joined Olivia O’Leary at Emo Court in Co Laois to take part in the Heart of Summer series of events, organised by Poetry Ireland and the Office of Public Works. In this episode of the Poetry Programme, we bring you part of that evening’s performance.
