Listen: Julie Andrews talks to Movies and Musicals

In 2008 Julie Andrews spoke to Aedín Gormley on Movies and Musicals on RTÉ lyric fm about the first part of her memoir Home: A Memoir of My Early Years. Seven years later in 2015, Aedín conducted a public interview with the star as part of the Dublin International Film Festival.

Well, the two have come together again to chat about Julie's follow up book entitled Home Work: A Memoir of My Hollywood Years. This book sees Julie Andrews picking up the story with her arrival in Hollywood and her astonishing rise to fame in her earliest films; Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music.

She describes her years in the film industry, from the incredible highs to the challenging lows. Andrews gives a great insight into performing the songs in these musicals, the learning curve of moving from stage to screen as well as her own personal story of dealing with the emotional baggage of her childhood and becoming a wife and mother herself.

Movies and Musicals with Aedín Gormley, Saturdays from 1-4pm on RTE lyric fm - listen back here.
