The nominations for Best Folk Album at this year's RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards offer a vivid snapshot of the rude health of the contemporary Irish folk scene, showcasing many of its finest players at the top of their game - see the shortlist here. 

John Creedon and Ruth Smith will once again present the awards ceremony at Vicar St, Dublin on October 24th, with many of those nominated performing on the night - find out more here.  The RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards will also be broadcast on RTÉ Radio 1 on the night, from 8pm.
