The winner of the 9th Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition will be announced at the final in the National Concert Hall Dublin this Thursday, 31 January 2019 at 7.30pm.

Featuring six finalists, this event with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra,will be streamed live by RTÉ lyric fm and RTÉ Culture, with the winner announced at the end of the night.

The Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition is a renowned international singing competition, taking place every three years in Dublin, and attracting talented competitors from all over the world. The opportunity to sing in front of a prestigious international jury is a huge attraction for young singers to enter the competition. A total of 160 singers competed for places at auditions in New York and in cities across Europe during last October and November.

38 singers were in Dublin this past week to compete in the competition, including five Irish singers. They comprised 13 sopranos, 9 mezzo-sopranos, 1 countertenor, 5 tenors and 10 baritones. Countries represented included New Zealand, Indonesia, Korea, China, America, Venezuela, Turkey, Italy, Ireland and Germany.

The international jury for the 2019 Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition is chaired by its Artistic Director, Jane Carty. It comprises seven members, including conductor Richard Bonynge, former Artistic Director of Vancouver Opera, Peter Carwell, Director of the Richard Tucker Music Foundation, and John Gilhooly, Director of the Wigmore Hall London.

All six competitors in the Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition receive prizes, with the winner receiving a prize of €10,000, and the platform for a glittering career in song; since its inception, the competition has been a launch pad for many singers, including Fatma Said, Nadine Sierra and Tara Erraught.
