How The Favourite became an Oscar favourite

Ray D'Arcy spoke to Element Pictures producer Ed Guiney, to get his first reaction to the 10 Oscar nominations his film The Favourite has received.

"I was up at twenty past five with Andrew watching the announcement," says Ed, calling from the US. "We were optimistic, but you never want to be too confident. We thought we'd get a few, it was great to get that many".

Guiney told Ray that the idea for The Favourite has been in development for more than a decade. Element already had a long history with filmmaker Yorgas Lanthimos - they produced his films The Lobster and The Killing Of A Sacred Deer - when they initially sent him the script for The Favourite. Ed also saluted his fellow Dubliner Robbie Ryan, who shot the film and was nominated for Best Cinematography.

The Favourite is in Irish cinemas now.
