This Thursday, RTÉ Radio 1 will host the inaugural Folk Awards at Dublin’s Vicar St, celebrating the first dedicated folk awards held in Ireland - the night will see the stars of folk come together under one roof.

Performing on the night are several generations of Irish folk talent: Christy Moore, Saint Sister, Lankum, Landless, The Whileaways, Iarla Ó Lionáird, DaoirÍ Farrell, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, Eleanor Shanley, The Lost Brothers, Steo Wall and Slow Moving Clouds. In addition, Hall Of Fame inductee Andy Irvine with perform a very special set, supporting several of his favourite folk players.
Presented by John Creedon and Ruth Smith, these awards will celebrate Irish folk musicians and their significant contribution to Irish culture - view the nominees in full here.
Announcing the line up, Ann Marie Power, Head of Arts and Culture at RTÉ said: ‘The shortlist is a snapshot of the incredible strength of folk music in Ireland right now. RTÉ is committed to playing its part in not only keeping folk music and traditional arts alive, but being in some small way part of the renaissance that is happening right now. We are delighted to present the inaugural RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards, which we hope will act as a point each year to honour, celebrate and innovate Irish folk music’.
