Two very different icons of '80s music have announced major Irish dates for next summer - Norwegian pop idols A-ha, and enigmatic musical maverick Matt Johnson, aka The The.
Widely regarded as pioneers of pop video, A-ha will forever be known for their massive global hit Take on Me - the multi-platinum selling trio (vocalist Morten Harket, guitarist Pal Waaktaar-Savoy and keyboardist Magne Furuholmen) also recorded the theme song to 1987 James Bond movie The Living Daylights.
They'll play at next summer's Live At the Marquee concerts in Cork. on June 12th 2018 - joining Jenny Greene and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, Christy Moore, comedian Dara O'Briain and Bell X1 as the acts announced thus far for the massively popular Live At the Marquee series.
The The have been a cult concern since the early eighties, with singer/songwriter Matt Johnson the only regular fixture over the decades. Albums like Soul Mining (1983), Infected (1986), Mind Bomb (1989) and Dusk (1993) won them critical kudos and a devoted following.
Following a fifteen year hiatus, Johnson reactivated The The earlier this year, collaborating with old cohort Johnny Marr on a new single, We Can't Stop What's Coming. Now he's returning to the live fray with a date at Dublin's Iveagh Gardens on July 7th, 2018.
