Casting has begun for Disney's big screen version of Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl novels - and they're holding another round of open auditions nationwide in the hope of finding a talented Irish unknown to play the title role.

Colfer's popular series of books focuses on 12-year-old anti-hero Artemis, a brilliant and cunning criminal mastermind whose plot to extort gold from the secret Fairy People sees him facing off against some of the most dangerous creatures on earth.

While no director has been officially announced for the film, directors ranging from Jim Sheridan to Kenneth Branagh have been attached to the project over the years, with Hollywood megaproducer Harvey Weinstein producing, and Conor McPherson in discussions to adapt the first and second instalments of Colfer's best-selling children's series into a single movie.

The official Casting Call for the role reads as follows:

LBC is hoping to widen the net and see as many children as possible and the casting team return at the end of September and start of October to Dublin, Galway, and Cork.

At first glance, Artemis could be mistaken for a rather ordinary child with little athletic ability, but his eyes reveal a flickering of intelligence. Inquisitive and possessing both academic and emotional intelligence, he is highly perceptive and good at reading people. Most importantly, Artemis is warm-hearted and has a great sense of humour; he has fun in whatever situation he is in and loves life.

Applications must be submitted by a parent or legal guardian.

Lucy Bevan Casting will be holding auditions in;

Galway on 29 & 30 September

Dublin on 1 October

Cork on 14 October

If you would like to considered send a recent photo, your age, and height by Monday 18 September to Emily at

Please state which location you would like to audition in (Galway, Dublin or Cork) or if you would prefer to submit a self-tape.
